The Human Resources Director will build and support our volunteer team from recruitment through retention. You will create systems for onboarding new volunteers, coordinate scheduling across departments, foster a positive and inclusive campaign culture, and ensure every team member feels valued, heard, and empowered to do their best work.
This is a volunteer position for someone who genuinely cares about people and understands that a campaign is only as strong as its team. You will be the glue that holds our volunteer operation together, making sure everyone has what they need to succeed.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage the volunteer recruitment pipeline, working with the Field Director and Digital Director to attract new team members
- Create and implement a comprehensive onboarding process for all new volunteers
- Maintain volunteer records, track hours, and manage scheduling across departments
- Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteer questions, concerns, and feedback
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive campaign culture
- Coordinate volunteer appreciation efforts and recognition programs
- Mediate conflicts and address interpersonal issues as they arise
- Work with department leads to match volunteers with roles that fit their skills and interests
- Conduct exit interviews and gather feedback to improve the volunteer experience
- Ensure compliance with volunteer safety and anti-harassment policies
Qualifications
- Experience in human resources, volunteer management, or people operations
- Strong interpersonal skills and genuine enjoyment of working with diverse groups of people
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality
- Conflict resolution skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
- Familiarity with volunteer management tools or willingness to learn
- Commitment to creating an inclusive environment for volunteers of all backgrounds
- Deep commitment to progressive values and grassroots organizing
Time Commitment
This is a moderate volunteer commitment. We are looking for someone who can dedicate 8 to 12 hours per week to the campaign, with some flexibility around scheduling. As volunteer numbers grow closer to the primary, the time commitment may increase.
