The Policy Advisor on Middle East Affairs will help shape the campaign's approach to one of the most consequential foreign policy issues facing the United States. Our campaign is committed to peace, mutual understanding, and ending the cycle of violence that has caused so much suffering in the region. We reject the failed policies of unconditional military support and believe that lasting security can only come through diplomacy and justice.
This is a volunteer position for someone with deep knowledge of Middle Eastern politics, history, and culture who shares our commitment to a peaceful and just resolution to the region's conflicts. You will help ensure that our positions are informed, nuanced, and rooted in a genuine desire for peace.
Our Approach
- Prioritize peace and diplomacy over military intervention
- Promote mutual understanding between peoples and cultures
- End unconditional U.S. military aid that enables human rights violations
- Support humanitarian assistance and reconstruction efforts
- Advocate for international law and accountability for all parties
- Amplify the voices of peace advocates and civil society in the region
Responsibilities
- Advise the candidate on policy positions related to Middle Eastern affairs
- Research current events, legislation, and policy debates related to the region
- Draft talking points, policy briefs, and position statements
- Prepare the candidate for questions about Middle East policy at debates and town halls
- Monitor relevant legislation in Congress and recommend positions
- Connect the campaign with peace organizations and advocacy groups
- Help craft messaging that emphasizes our commitment to peace and understanding
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of Middle Eastern history, politics, and current events
- Understanding of U.S. foreign policy in the region and relevant legislation
- Commitment to peace, diplomacy, and human rights for all peoples
- Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively
- Academic background, professional experience, or significant personal engagement with the region
- Strong research and writing skills
Time Commitment
This is a flexible volunteer commitment of approximately 5 to 10 hours per week. The work involves ongoing monitoring of events and legislation, with increased demands when Middle East issues are prominent in the news or when the candidate needs preparation for specific events.
