The Campaign Treasurer is a legally required position responsible for ensuring our campaign complies with all Federal Election Commission regulations. You will manage campaign finances, track contributions and expenditures, and file all required reports on time. This is one of the most important roles on any federal campaign.
This is a volunteer position for someone with a strong understanding of accounting, bookkeeping, or campaign finance. You will help ensure that our grassroots campaign operates with complete transparency and integrity while meeting all legal requirements.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the official treasurer of record with the Federal Election Commission
- Maintain accurate records of all contributions received and expenditures made
- Ensure all contributions comply with FEC limits and source restrictions
- Prepare and file all required FEC reports, including quarterly reports, pre-primary reports, and 48-hour notices for late contributions
- Track filing deadlines and ensure all reports are submitted on time
- Review contribution data for compliance issues such as excessive contributions or prohibited sources
- Coordinate with ActBlue and other fundraising platforms to reconcile donation records
- Work with the Finance Director on budget tracking and financial planning
- Respond to any FEC inquiries or requests for additional information
- Maintain proper documentation for all campaign financial activity
Key FEC Deadlines
- Quarterly reports due April 15, July 15, October 15, and January 31
- Pre-primary report due 12 days before the June 2026 primary election
- 48-hour notices required for contributions of $1,000 or more received within 20 days of an election
- Year-end report due January 31 covering the previous calendar year
Qualifications
- Experience with accounting, bookkeeping, or financial record-keeping
- Familiarity with FEC regulations and campaign finance law, or willingness to learn quickly
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Experience with spreadsheets and financial software
- Ability to meet strict deadlines without exception
- Comfort working with FEC filing software or willingness to learn
- Previous campaign treasurer experience is helpful but not required
- Deep commitment to transparency and ethical practices
Time Commitment
This is a moderate but deadline-driven volunteer commitment. During most of the campaign, the role requires 5 to 10 hours per week for ongoing record-keeping and contribution processing. However, time commitment increases significantly in the weeks before FEC filing deadlines, when you may need to dedicate 15 to 20 hours to preparing and reviewing reports. Consistency and reliability are essential.
